AL

AL is a set of three custom-built mobile loudspeakers with large aluminum horns, designed to project focused, long-range sound "beams". Instead of emanating directly from the speakers, the perception of the sound source appears to come from the surrounding architecture, turning the space itself into a musical instrument. Two compositions - one for live performance and another for sound installation - invited performers and audience, respectively, to explore and “listen to the architecture" by changing the position and orientation of each sonic device.

This project was premiered at Convento de São Francisco (Coimbra, Portugal - 2019), as a sound installation and as a performative event called "Um Pássaro na Paisagem" (A Bird on the Landscape).
